DOCUMENTARY EARNS JOINT SERVICE MEDAL

  • April 1, 2016

I'm honored to report that I received the "Joint Service Achievement Medal" for my work making the documentary film "Jobs for G.I.s," which Z-Channel Film produced for DirecTV. The award reads: "While in collaboration with DirecTV and working alongside Denver Producer and Director Doug Gritzmacher of Z-Channel Films, Director Dorst's keen perspective was instrumental in capturing and melding the stories of five veterans from the services of the Army, Air Force, Navy and the Marines. His technical skills proved to be essential as he witnessed the realities most veterans face transitioning from military service to the civilian workplace." "GIJobs", a documentary feature film produced for DirecTV by Z-Channel Films. It concludes with "The distinctive accomplishments of Director Dorst reflect credit upon himself, Z-Channel Films, DirecTV and the…

"Jobs For G.I.s" Screening In Denver Colorado

We had the pleasure this weekend to premiere our latest documentary feature film, "Jobs for G.I.'s" for the Denver community. We produced the film for DirecTV/AT&T in 2015 and after a year of intense work  it was nice to be able to finally show it off to my friends and colleagues. I held the screening at my studio space in Denver's RiNo Arts District. It's a home base I share with a number of other fantastic artists and creative people. I'm pleased to say the film was received very well. Many attendees commented on how they connected with our five characters on a deep level. Others loved the aerial shots of L.A. and others were impressed with the quality of the storytelling. "GIJobs", a documentary feature…

Audio Mixiing Facility In Boulder, Coupe Studios

I spent the afternoon today working with the talented crew at the audio post-production facility Couple Studios in Boulder, Colorado, on a final mix session with our documentary film production, "Jobs for G.I.s." They came highly recommended from my friends at Image Brew Productions in Denver, who have worked with them often. They have done a fantastic job and have played a big role in bringing this film to life. "GIJobs" airs Nov. 7 on DirecTV's Audience Network.

Doug Gritzmacher And Steve Dorst Of Z-Channel Films With The Vet Hunters

Last week Steve and I left Denver and were in Los Angeles doing production for a feature documentary film we are producing and directing for DirecTV, which will air the film on their Audience Network later this year. The film is about the challenges veterans face when attempting to enter the civilian workforce. We chose to base the film in LA because the city has the largest number of veterans in the nation. LA also hosts the largest number of homeless veterans in the country. Which is where the folks in the above picture come in. Each week, this group, called "Vet Hunters", sets out around various locations in Los Angeles in search of homeless veterans. All of them are veterans themselves, many once homeless, too.…
